I'm going to have my hips replaced someday.

So, first off, I need to start jotting down notes of what to write.  Every time I've been at a computer lately I've been too busy to compose, and when I have time, the last thing I want to do is be on a computer.  I do, however, want to continue to blog.  Since I have a weird love of stationary items, I do have enough notebooks and pens that this should not be a problem.

Last week, I did 30 Day Shred Monday and Wednesday, and then ran 4 miles Tuesday and Thursday.  I surprisingly improved my time by a minute on Thursday, even though I felt that run didn't go as well as my Tuesday run.  Friday was a scheduled day off and Saturday was full of errands.

Sunday, I had a 6 mile run scheduled.  J let me sleep in, so I didn't run in the morning.  A mistake on the weekend I think.  There is usually enough going on that if I don't get out early, I don't get out.  Plus, I'm so used to eating my calories back after working out in the morning, it was a different fueling process.

I really didn't think I was going to get out, but Sunday evening around 6:30 the power went out.  Second time in the four years we've lived here.  So, what else was there to do?  J and O actually came with me.  Running with J always pushes me to go a little further and push a little harder.  I ran the first 3 miles in 35 minutes, and slowed down a bit, running the first 4 in 48 minutes.  Which was still 6 minutes faster than my 4 mile run on Thursday.  I felt good about the accomplishment, but physically, it was a bit fast for a training run for me.

Or maybe it felt like too much since it was still 91 degrees outside.  When we passed the sign with the temperature, J asked how it felt to be running in 91 degree weather.  Um, like we're crazy?  Then he told me "welcome to being a runner."  I know I've declared that I finally feel like a runner, but it's great to hear him say that as well.

As much as I kept saying I couldn't finish, I did.  With minimal walking, all things considered.  I apologized each time I had to stop and walk, but really, it was 91 degrees and my hips were dying.  I also discovered I don't care for fuel gels.  It made my mouth all sticky and I just needed to chug more water.  I'll stick to jelly beans and gummies.

After that, I have been slacking.  I did some pushups tonight after some much needed snacking.  Tomorrow I'll be running.  As early as possible before the 200 degree weather hits.  I was supposed to run on Tuesday but couldn't get up.  So I figured this morning, but then O got up and took forever to get back to sleep.  Plus, it's staying dark later, which I'm not a fan of running in.  I think I'll need to figure out some running after work solution.  I'd rather finish my run in the dark than start it that way.  Guess that means I'll also work out fueling during the day.

Good news, I'm down 2lbs from last week!

Bring it!

Time for body challenge at work!  I'm super excited and totally going to win.  First weigh in was Friday and the final weigh in is the Thursday before my half.  Perfect, I know I'll be doing lots of exercise these next two months.

While last week was a bit down, and I only got one run in, this week is already looking better.  I'm keeping up with my diet (for the most part), did 30 Day Shred yesterday morning, and 4 miles this morning.

It was very humid this morning when I ran, but I still finished in about 55 minutes.  At least is race like conditions.  Definitely still going slow, which I guess is to be expected.  But it also worries me how early I'm going to get up when my weekday runs get up to 5 miles.  Guess I have to lay out my clothes the night before and no more snooze button on those days.  Which hasn't been possible in the past.  But with money and finishing a race in one piece on the line, I'm going to have to step it up.

Plus I lost about a pound and a half in the past week!

Husband inspired diet day 1

J has lost 25-30 pounds this year.  I have gained 4 this past month (ticker back below!).  So, I have handed over my diet to him.  Husband controlled diet sounds rather harsh though, and really his weight loss is inspiring me to change my diet.  And I'm letting him tell me what to eat.  And I am such a snacker.  Oh I want some chips and chocolate!  I actually ended up eating a lighter breakfast than I wanted since O was up and I was just trying to wrangle him this morning, so I expect tomorrow to be better.

I also meant to get in a run this morning.  But again, O was up early.  I got him back to sleep, and then couldn't find socks.  I finally gave up, went to shower, and by the time I was done, O was up again.  I guess it all worked out with not going out for a run.  Laundry tonight, run tomorrow.

I may be disappointed in my weight ticker, but I'm loving that I'm 10 miles up from last week.

And I'm crazy

As promised, if I actually woke up at 5am this morning to run 5miles, I would declare myself crazy.  Well, I did it!

Pre run.  Don't I look excited.  I really did try to open my eyes and smile for the picture.

I always start thinking I'm going to have a bad run and this morning that thought really had me shuffling along and off to a slow start.  I don't know what changed my attitude, but things did get better after the first mile.  So much better, I somehow made it through the full 5 miles without walking.  And 5 miles.  To me, that's an official long run.  I've done a few 10ks, but never run 5 miles on my own as part of training.  It just sounds like such a big, round number.

I've named the last hill on my run Purple Sponge Hill.  It was almost Annoying Hill since it's slow and long and gravel and just a pain.  But there is a random purple sponge in the middle of the hill that I shake my head at twice a run because who tosses a kitchen sponge out of the car onto the side of the road?  Anyway, Purple Sponge Hill usually kills my run and takes me forever to get up.  Today I didn't trudge up the hill like usual.  Not sure what was going on, but the last half mile felt great all around.

Happy July!

I'm done with no weigh-in June.  You might remember, I cheated on my birthday, and the scale said, "Happy Birthday!  I'm going to take away a pound or so as a fabulous present!"  This morning, the scale said, "Hope you enjoyed your birthday month, but it's over.  I'm giving those pounds and then some back.  HA!"  My official weigh-ins will still be Tuesdays, so hopefully things look slightly better when I update my ticker.

Blah.  So, I need to get back to eating well (I need to grocery shop!!) and pick up more exercise, other than the running.  Happy July.

And back to goals this month.  These goals are good from now until vacation, the last week of July.

July goals:
-No soda!
-Lots of water.  I've be slacking on this one the last couple weeks.
-Run at least 3x a week (this one is still in affect over vacation).
-Add at least one more type of exercise (some type of strength) a week.
-Track calories, and don't stop tracking for a day just because I ate something bad and don't want to see and admit just how bad.
